Inviting your fiancé’s ex to your wedding sounds like one of the more awkward things that can happen at a wedding. However, one bride knew it was the right and only thing to do. But that’s exactly what this bride did.
Katie Hild was getting married to a man named Jeremy. However, she wasn’t going to be starting a brand new life with him. Jeremy had previously been married to a woman named Casey. And with Casey, Jeremy had a son named Landon.
We always hear stories of evil stepmothers or insane ex-wives and ex-girlfriends. But this isn’t the case at all between Katie and Casey. Not only were Casey and her new partner, Tyler, invited to Katie and Jeremy’s wedding, but they were also asked to stand during a portion of the ceremony.
Before the bride and groom got to read their vows to each other, the woman performing the wedding asked Casey and Tyler to stand up in the audience.
The woman then handed a sheet of paper to Katie, who turned to face her groom’s ex-wife. Katie then proceeded to read vows to Casey and Tyler, thanking them for accepting her as a friend, vowing to take care of Landon, and promising to remain one whole family.
Katie reads, “First I want to thank you for accepting me as your friend and allowing me to be a part of Landon’s life.” She also vows, “I promise to respect, work, listen, and communicate together as co-parents.”
It’s clear that Katie has a solid understanding that she’s not only marrying Jeremy, but she’s marrying into a family that shares the important responsibility of raising a child.
After reading her vows to Casey and Tyler, Katie asked little Landon to join her. She then crouches down to his level and makes her vows to him. Katie tells the boy, “Landon, I love you more than you will ever know.”
She goes on to explain her loving relationship with the little boy and then vows, “I’ve loved watching you grow and I will for the rest of my life. I’m so happy that I now officially get to be your bonus mommy.”
She shares, “I promise to stand by you, listen to you, and love you everyday.” Katie also tells Landon that she promises to love his dad forever. She concludes her vows to Landon with a sweet, warm hug.
After Katie finishes reading her vows to Casey, Tyler, and Landon, there’s not a dry eye left in the church. Even the groom can’t hold back his tears.
Katie shared the video on Facebook and explained why she not only vowed to her new husband but also to her husband’s ex-wife and their son.
She explains, “I wasn’t just going into a marriage with Jeremy and needed his trust and respect, but I needed Casey’s and Tyler’s, too. One thing I promised, was to be ONE family, always. I know without hesitation, we will never break that promise.”
